Fiji Basketball to scout for talents

Basketballer’s competing in the Fiji Secondary Schools Championship this week will have much more than the title to play for.

Fiji Basketball Federation development officer, Laisiasa Puamau says national selectors will be scouting for reps during the four day tournament in Suva.

“Girls have an opportunity to impress the national coaches to join the training squad that will compete in the FIBA U19 tournament in November in Australia.”

The Under 19 tournament was formerly known as the Oceania Under 22 Championship before being renamed to the U20s.

Puamau says officials have dropped it to the U19 grade to encourage development in the Pacific.

Meanwhile Day Two of competition begins this morning kick starting the day is the U19 boy’s game between LDS and Saint Thomas while ACS takes on Cathedral.
