Nainima awaits Israel deal

Rather than take time off, Fiji’s first ever contracted basketballer, Valerie Nainima has been using her time back home to develop the sport.

She’s waiting on a new deal that could see her moving from Germany to Israel, so with some time on her hands, she’s doing all she can to upskill local players.

“One thing I know for sure is Israel is a higher league compared to Germany. Germany is professional but I’d like to test myself and a lot of players I played in the States are in Israel so it will be good to go and test myself.”

The new season is expected to start around October/November and she;s summed up reason for her success to one key factor.

“A lot has to do with discipline. I think if you make up your mind that you want to take it go further up you need to be disciplined. We have the athleticism to be involved at the highest level.”

Meanwhile, Fiji Secondary Schools basketball competition gets underway next month.
