A NIGHT IN NADI

For some years the Nadi Association has been in recess and in discussions with local parents, who expressed strong interest by local youth to play basketball, it seems that the future may be through commencing local junior and youth competitions.  The NBDO will put together a plan for commencing such competitions during the second term of this school year.

The two local players in Neal and Douglas were taken through the year's program and handed their cd of information, along with their diaries and recording sheet booklet.  As with several players in the Suva area who are unable to attend the conditioning sessions at the Post Fiji Stadium athletic track, these players will complete their conditioning program as a home program.  The program differs slightly to that performed by the rest of the quad but is more workable in an unsupervised situation.  The strength program for each of the National Youth Squads is completed as a home program as there simply is not sufficient space in the Hyundai Weight Gym of a morning to cater for the National Women's and Men's squads and the National Youth Squads.

These players will attend squad practice sessions in Suva when time permits and this will mostly be during the school holiday breaks.  The players will meanwhile have a home program of individual skills and also do the fitness tests at the same time as the balance of the squad.  With the support of parents it is envisaged that these players will be able to keep up with the others in the squad.
