LIU Drafts Letava for 2009-10 Season

Brooklyn, New York - Long Island University Basketball Head Coach  Gail Striegler announced the addition of Letava Whippy  to the recruiting class of the 2009-10 season.

Whippy, the sister of former Blackbird standout and current director of basketball operations at LIU Mikaelar Whippy will join an already strong recruiting class that received honorable mention status on the Blue Star Basketball Top 50.

Letava a  5-foot-10 combo guard plays for  Church College of New Zealand, in Hamilton NZ where she is averaging 15 points and 7 rebounds per game. She was also named Most Valuable player at the New Zealand Nationals in 2007 and again in  2008.

“Letava is a great addition to the women’s basketball program”. Striegler said.  “She’s very accurate from 15 feet to three-point range.  She is a good passer than can handle the ball well and will put points on the board.  She’s a great find for us and rounds out a solid incoming class.”

Whippy joins Tamika Guz (Miami, Fla.), Ifeoma Obianwu (Tabernacle, N.J.), Kayla Ramsby (Fairburn, Ga.), who will play for the Blackbirds next season.
