Shaq Ataq kills off Lautoka's Vikings

Shaq Ataq proudly took home $1000 yesterday after they defeating last year's defending champions, Vikings of Lautoka, 56-31.

In the women's division, Executioners beat Shaq Ataq 25-24.

The teams battled to a draw and had to play three minutes overtime.

But tournament top scorer Maria Tamani sank the the last ball in a penalty shoot-out to win the game.

In the man's grade, Shaq Ataq had the upper-hand.

They stopped the Vikings from dominating early.

That left the defending champions struggled to get possession.

But in their haste, the Vikings buckled under pressure and many opportunities were lost.

National rep Jale Vunisa missed many baskets and Shaq Ataq were quick to grab the rebound.

The best player and top-scorer in the men's category went to Basketball Fiji's new development officer, Laisiasa Puamau.

Shaq Ataq's David Whippy was in top gear yesterday as coach and father, Michael Whippy cheered him on from the side.

Shaq Ataq and Executioners received prizes given by the Yellow Ribbon Project.
