Saints rule primary basketball

LATTER Day Saints Primary School took top honours after beating Veiuto Primary School 16-14 during the Under-14 final of
the Post Fiji Kaji Primary Schools Basketball Competition at Ed's Court on Saturday.

In what was a close encounter, both teams came out fired for the final, which went into extra time.

At half-time, LDS held a slender 8-6 lead before Veiuto clawed its way back to tie the match at 12-all after regular time.

A three-minute extra time was held and Veiuto was quick to restore the lead. LDS hit back with two points to tie the match at 14-all and then

went on to score the winner.

International Secondary School won the third-fourth place play-off, beating Holy Trinity Primary 14-2.

Basketball's Fiji Australian youth ambassador Mark Seccombe said the tournament was a "great success"."There was a lot talent on display. The boys and girls have been training hard. They've all improved," Seccombe said. "I'm really looking forward to next year's competition."

Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said they were thankful to the sponsors for taking an interest in the development of the young kids. "We look forward to their continued support next year."

In other results, the U10 final was not played because of the unavailability of the International Secondary Schools indoor court.

John Wesley was crowned winner of the U12 final, beating Veiuto 10-4.
