Nadi Basketball Association plans to revive basketball in Nadi

 The NBDO was warmly greeted by the NBA President Mr. John Ravitu, Vice President Sailasi and Treasurer Viama Nalaga. The Nadi Basketball Association (NBA) is plaining to revive basketball in Nadi and they hope to begin with running a Nadi Secondary Basketball Competition as a build for schools towards the National Secondary Basketball Chapionships that will be held in Suva on August 24th, 2009. The NBA have implemented a Big Brother Programme where the NBA development officers adopt a student or team to train. The NBA is plaining to start a development program within the schools that will run until July and than start the Nadi Secondary Basketball Competition in July (week 10 - 14). The NBA is also interested in hosting a Business House Basketball Competition in Octobor. In 2010 are hoping in partnership with Basketball Fiji to launch a Nadi Primary Schools Basketball Competition.

On the second day the NDBO travelled up to Lautoka and was warmly greeted by Pater Chambers (National Under 20 rep),Simione Cagilaba (Secetary of Lautoka Basketball League) and Emily Chambers (wife of President and committee member of LBL). After a short and informal meeting we went to approach the secondary schools in Lautoka. The schools that we visited were Natabua, Lautoka Central, Saint Thomas, Jasper and Tilak Secondary Schools. All schools showed interest in participating in the Lautoka Secondary Basketball Competition and National Secondary Basketball Championships. The Lautoka Basketball League have identified 5 schools in the area. The principle of the 5 schools have been approached and are committed in a having a development program and a Lautoka Primary Schools Basketball Competition in 2010.

Basketball Fiji would like to thank the Nadi Basketball Association for showing interest in reviving the sport in Nadi and the Lautoka Basketball League in running basketball competition for the players in Lautoka. Both associations are very keen in development and Basketball Fiji hopes through funding that referee's and coaching clinic be conducted in these areas.
