Mili sets her target

Basketball for young Mili Waqairawai has been a passion ever since primary school. And her namesake and former national rep motivated her to take up the sport since he was in Class Five at Stella Marist Primary School in Suva. Playing alongside national rep Merelini Waqairawai and Sera Vugakoto has helped the young Vanuabalavu lass a lot. And this has also pushed her to further develop her basketball and at the same time devote some of her precious time into netball while she is still young. “I love both netball and basketball and I will try my best to achieve the highest in both,” she said. “My namesake has always been inspiring me to focus mainly on what I have set as my goals and the most important thing she streseed is working hard to be able to achieve them. “Playing alongside these senior players helps me learn a lot in terms of discipline and focusing on lifting the standard of the game. She also plays for the Suva Under 21 and the Lomaiviti club in netball and plays for the Golden Bati club from Nepani in basketball. She always makes sure that balance is maintained in both her sports and academic activities admitting that she is able to achieve all her dreams through hard work and dedication. While still at Adi Cakobau School, her dreams of achieving more has convinced young Mili to instill in her hard work and perserverance which she believes would be the best way to suceed. She started playing for her Bati club ever since she was in Class Five and has now landed herself in the national U20 development squad. The willingness to take up both sports has inspired her into committing herself to attaining the best while still at a young age. Taking up both sports has helped Waqairawai not only building up her sports career, it has also helped her in building up her discpline and personal life. She believes that sport does not only focus on what you achieve at the end of the day but how you are able to apply these talents on your everyday life.
