Basketball season starts

The 2010 Suva Basketball League season officially started last Saturday at the Vodafone Arena with four women's and four men's teams taking the court. The Southern Force, with a changed line-up from last season, went down 15-56 to a more experienced Knights in the opening game of the women's competition. Litia Nanovo, of the Southern Force, shot the only three pointer of the match. In the second match, former Fiji rep Olive Whippy's Veterans' lost to a fitter Golden Bati 12-18. In the men's competition, the Saints, led by Leonard Whippy, defeated Idaman 83-53 in the first match.The Knights went down 31-56 to Basketball Fiji development ofiicer Laisiasa Puamau's Shaq Attaq. In the final match, the Pitbulls won by default over Air Iguanas. The Suva Basketball League will continue for the next six weeks at the Vodafone Arena. New teams are welcome to join the Suva League and should look on the Southern Force website www.southernforce.net for registration details.
