Basketball plans in the pipeline

Plans are in the pipeline to develop basketball in the Northern Division, says Laisiasa Puamau.

The Fiji Basketball Association Development Officer says no development work has been done in the division as yet.

“We conducted a coaching clinic last year with teachers at the Labasa Special School where funding was provided to us through the Fiji Para-Olympic Committee.

“Hopefully once we have re-established basketball beginning with Suva and slowly working ourselves outwards.” The trip, Puamau added had positive feedbacks from the school which the association hopes to develop further in the near future.

The main concern the association faces at the moment is funding.

“Once we secure funding, every strategic plan will fall accordingly.

“Developing sport in the outer islands has always been one of our main strategic plans.

“We hope that our sisters and brothers out there will also have a taste of basketball like what the Suva, Lautoka, Nadi kids are having,” he added.
