Junior Basketball Development Program begins in Primary Schools

Basketball Fiji has implemented its Junior Basketball Development Program in Primary Schools in the Eastern and Western Division. Basketball Fiji's Development Officers Laisiasa Puamau, Nicholas Wong and Emily Chambers have been conducting clinics in Primary Schools in Suva and Lautoka in the build up towards the 2010 Primary Schools Basketball Competition that will be held in Lautoka and Suva on Friday 04th of June, during term 2 of the school calendar. The program which began on Tuesday has schools such as LDS, John Wesley, Stella Maris, International, Drasa Avenue (Lautoka) and International Primary School already confirmed for the 2010 Basketball Program. Basketball Fiji's Development officer reach's up to 300 kids per week and anticipates the numbers to increase as more schools are expected to join in the coming weeks. Basketball Fiji would also like to thank the Ministry of Education and the Australian Governament (ASOP) for recognizing the importance for Primary aged children in participating in organised sports and allowing us the opportunity to provide basketball as an alternative choice to traditionally played sports in the country.
