Tamaraws here to learn

The Moni Plus Tamaraws from Papua New Guinea is the only overseas team taking part in the Easter Basketball competition in Suva.
The Tamaraws men’s team are the champion club from PNG and are in the country for exposure.
Team manager Boy Daroya said they find competition in Fiji very competitive and exciting as his team prepares to battle with other clubs in PNG.
“We made all the arrangements with Basketball Fiji,”Daroya said.
“We wanted to compete in this competition because it will give our players better exposure as teams in Fiji provide good competition.
“I’m sure all my players have learnt a lot from this competition. Our first day was a bit difficult as the boys adjust because the problem that we were facing was running time because we used FIBA timing at home,” Daroya said.
The Tamaraws lost their first game against Saints, but came back strongly in their second game defeating Titans 46-33 and walloped Outsiders 45-25.
“We have tall players in our team, but there is a lot to learn in the sport,” Daroya said.
“This is the first time for us to come over in Fiji and compete with teams here and we would love to come to Fiji often and compete.”
Moni Plus Tamaraws are not only here to compete, but is part of PNG Basketball Federations preparation plans for the Pacific Games, because they are the hosts for the Pacific Games in 2015.
