‘Player of the week’
Following an outstanding week on court,  Koyamainavure was named the “offensive player of the week” in the Iowa Community College Athletics Conference.
Koyamainavure was awarded the honour for her pivotal role in her Iowa Tritons team victories over Lake Region State College and Marshalltown.
Laisiasa Puamau, Basketball Fiji’s development officer, said it was a proud moment for basketball in the country.
“It is a big achievement for Mili, for her family and for Basketball Fiji. We are proud of her and she’s a clear testament of her hard work and dedication,” Puamau said.
“She’s also setting a good example for our local players and can serve as a good role model, not just for basketball but for the community.”
Puamau acknowledged the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) for their scholarship programme that enabled Koyamainavure to play and study in the United States.
“I want to thank ONOC for opening up opportunities to Mili by awarding her a scholarship. She has the chance to do something she’s passionate about and great at as well as continue her education,” Puamau said.
The Iowa Central sophomore tallied an impressive 20 points and 21 rebounds against Lake Region and added 15 points to the Tritons 113-70 victory against Marshalltown.
She is currently with Iowa Central Community College doing an Associate Degree in Arts and is into her final year.
