Red's Record Double Victory

DYNAMIC Reds girls basketball team recorded double victories during the Raiwaqa under-19 Basketball Championship at Ed's court yesterday.

The Raiwaqa-based team had a default win over Mystics in its opening game and then crushed Latter Day Saints Two 34-15.

Coached by Laisiasa Puamau, the Redz have a clean record after the fourth round.

Looking to continue its impressive form in the Raiwaqa club competition, the influence of Tiyana Kainamoli has been a revelation to the side.

In the boys category, Marist beat Macpacers 35-21 while Saints edged LDS Two 24-23.

Raiwaqa basketball official and former national rep Peniasi Kainamoli said the level of competition had intensified. He said the secondary school competition would be more exciting as most schools were part of the event.

"The competition just keeps getting better every week," he said.

"The skill level is very good and all teams are displaying quality basketball out there.

"I believe we're going to see more better games in the future. Most schools are using this event as a build up to the secondary school competition."

He said the competition at U19 showed the development of basketball in the country.

Kainamoli added the competition gave a good opportunity for selectors to identify potential players for the Fiji U19 national teams at the Oceania Championship later in the year.
