Defending boys champs in quarter-finals

DEFENDING champions of all the grades in the boys competition, LDS are through to the quarter-finals of the Tuckers Ice Cream Secondary Schools Basketball Championships.

Despite the LDS under-15 side losing 20-22 to Suva Grammar yesterday at the Vodafone Arena, the side is still in contention to defend its title. In the girls competition, a new winner would be crowned in the under-15 grade after defending champions DAV Girls failed to make it through the round robin competition.

Under-17 champions St Joseph's Secondary School and under-19 champions Adi Cakobau School are still in the running to defend their respective titles.

Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said the level of competition had increased as the competition progressed.

"From the 105 pool games, we have seen how the competition has increased and the teams stepped up," he said. "Expectations are high (for today's games) since it's the knockout stages and we anticipate high level of games."

Quarter-finals begin at 8.30am.
