Boost for basketball federation
THE Basketball Fiji Federation received a timely gift from New Era company director Deng Peng of equipment worth more than $200,000.
In officially handing over the equipment Peng said he had a passion for the sport and was eager to help in any way possible.
"I love basketball but I love Fijians more and I hope the relationship between Fiji and China will last forever," he said.
Basketball Fiji Federation Treasurer Major Ben Sukuri said they were grateful for Peng's gift as they had just commenced with their All Stars program.
The Basketball Fiji All Stars are a group of players selected from the Fiji Secondary School Basketball tournament last year to be nurtured into viable athletes for national representation.
"We don't generate funds, so we are grateful for people like you (Peng). "The equipment is estimated to be worth a quarter of a million dollars and that's something we can only dream of reaching. This donation will help enhance our programs," he said.
Peng is the man behind the $500m New China City project in Lomolomo, Lautoka designed to develop a high rise hotel.
