Nainima Named to All-Met First Team

Nainima was an integral part of a Long Island team that compiled a program-best record of 24-8 and advanced to the NEC championship game. She scored her 1,000th career point on Feb. 9 at Robert Morris, becoming the fastest player in Long Island history to reach the milestone. The 5-foot-5 Fijian needed just 53 games to break the 1,000-point barrier. The diminutive guard was no slouch on the glass, averaging 5.7 rebounds per contest and grabbing 10 on two occasions. Nainima was also named to the NEC All-Tournament Team, averaging 21.7 points over three games.

Nainima scored over 20 points in a game 19 times this season, including a career-high 32 on two occasions: at NJIT on Dec. 12 and at Central Connecticut State on Jan. 10. She tallied three double-doubles this season, including one at Hofstra that saw her dish out a career-high 10 assists. Earlier this season, Nainima was honored for her work both on the court and in the classroom and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team. Last season, she garnered All-Met Second Team honors.

Nainima was joined on the All-Met First Team by Matee Ajavon, Essence Carson, and Kia Vaughn of Rutgers and Marist’s Rachele Fitz. Rutgers Epiphanny Prince was named the All-Met Player of the Year.

Nainima will receive her award on Thursday, April 17, at the Giants Stadium Club in East Rutherford, N.J.
