NSSBL CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED FOR 2008
One of the exciting parts of the Championship was the emergence of even more talent than last year, especially among the Natabua High School teams from Lautoka. Two really tall and athletic boys were seen and only 16 years old, and among the girls there were several of 15 and 16 years who are over 180cms in height and extremely athletic. In addition there were several taller players (both boys and girls) from Suva schools and again mostly very young. The NDP looks good for the future as we continue to find such talent.
Another pleasing aspect was the performance of all players from this year's National Youth Squads for both boys and girls. In all teams they were the dominant players and the overall standard was greatly improved from last year as a result of the NDP.
The only school to come across from the west was Natabua with a boys and girls under 17 teams and a girls under 19 age group. Their performances were remarkable when one considers the lack of competition over there for youth. It is one of the plans for the Lautoka Basketball Association to implement youth and junior competitions in 2009.
Most of the refereeing was completd by the usual trio of Navi, Joe and Kelevi, who were well support by Jese Sikivou and some of the youth squads.
