Shaq Attaq like O Neal

Shaq-Attaq played like champions just like basketball legend Shaquille O Neal. The Easter Basketball champions dominate the opening round of Suva Basketball League defeating Saints 55-48. We named our team after Shaq because we admire the way he played in the NBA competition, skipper Laisiasa Puamau said.

He is very powerful and we want our team to be like him. When we are young, most of our players look up to him. The reason why we named our team after him was to make us perform like him in the local competitions, he said.

O Neal played for 4 NBA teams: the Orlando Magic, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Miami Heat, and currently the Phoenix Suns.

O Neal graduated from Louisiana State University and is the only current NBA player with an MBA (Master of Business Administration). Shaq is also one of the few NBA players in history to reach the NBA Finals with three different teams. We had a good start and the boys regrouped well after a long break. The last time we played was during the Easter Championship and Im impressed with our first game together, Puamau said.

I hope to lift our performance to another level before the next round, he said. The national reps in our side made an impact with their experience which gave the extra edge. Puamau said their main aim would be defending their Suva title. We will try to defend out title again and with the national reps in the side I believe we will be the team to beat.

Meanwhile, Kenyan international Moses Seroney put on a strong performance for the defending champs last week. Moses was in great form last week and he still has a long way to go. He has the potential and with proper guidance he should be one of the upcoming stars in basketball, Puamau added.

Results: Women- White Fire 27 Executioners 38. Men: Pit Bulls 42 Freshmans 36, Saints 48-55 Shaq Attaq.
