CNMI Outruns GYBA Team

CNMI receives Intructions from the Coach

The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Junior Nationals displayed a quick transition game last night and defeated Guam Youth Basketball Association 70-56 in the 2007 19-and-under Micronesian Youth Basketball Tournament at the University of Guam field house.

Jericho Cruz led CNMI with 25 points, which is also his average from three games. Cruz also had six rebounds and five assists. Keoni Chariton had 11 points and eight rebounds for CNMI, who continued to press with less than two minutes left in regulation. Javen Tarkong and Allen Moses chipped in eight points each.

Zhi Bao Lin scored 14 to lead GYBA, made up of the Simon Sanchez Sharks high school team. Derrick Royster had ten points and Dioor Jones added seven points and eight rebounds.

  • Southern Youth Basketball Association 73, Guam High 68: SYBA's Jonathon Fayton scored 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds and teammate Dillon Dela Paz also scored 15 points and had five steals to lead SYBA. Justin Garcia had game-highs of 20 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort for Guam High.

     

  • Saipan Southern Sonics 81, Guam Dragons 59: Jonathan Lim's 15 points and six rebounds led the Sonics and teammate Manuel Ajoste added 11 points. Bryan Chan, Ivan De Vero and Jake Maratita all chipped in eight points apiece. The Guam Dragons were led by Jamie Serpena's 18 points and five steals. Willy Mackwelung added ten points and eight rebounds for the Dragons.

     

  • Saipan G-Rollers 98, Chuuk 78: Manny Matogolai led the G-Rollers with 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals, Zach Tudeta had 17 points and Trevor Ogumoro added 14 points and five steals. Clavius Fareway had 14 for Chuuk, who also got 13 points each from Gary Phillips and Chino Soulik.
