Friday 15^th July -

Be Active Western Stars v Minecraft Queensland Comets @ 4 pm

In a repeat encounter of their first game of Round 2, it will be the Stars' turn to host the Comets.  

The highest scorers from their previous clash were both Japanese imports, Chihiro Kitada for the Stars with 26 points and Mari Amimoto for the Comets with 25 points. However, the Comets will be benching Mari to play Erica this round so the other players in the Comets squad will have to step up to pull off a victory over the undefeated Stars squad. 

Kilsyth Cobras v Sydney Metro Blues @ 6pm

A clash of second vs. third on the ladder will be one to watch out for, with the Blues sneaking a 7-point victory the last time these two teams met.

If both sides display the same scoring balance as they did in their previous match when four of the Cobras and three of the Blues players hit double digits, it will be a hard fought battle to victory. Although, the loss of Shelley Chaplin might bear down the Cobras.

Sydney University Flames v Minecraft Queensland Comets @ 8pm

The second game of the night for the Comets will be a close one, going by their previous records against the Flames.

Currently, they are tied at one loss to a win each against each other, with the Comets getting the better of the Flames in Round 2. The Flames will need to look at reducing the 12 turnovers and 43 missed shots that they had against the Comets in Round 2 to be a lot more efficient in this game.

 

Saturday 16^th July -

Sydney Metro Blues v Sydney University Flames @ 8am

The Flames will be back for the first game on Saturday to play the derby against the Blues and try to score their first victory against them. 

Given that their 27-point loss in Round 2 was 13 points more than their loss in Round 1, the Flames will have to try new strategies to outplay the Blues. The Crispin, Kean and Gauci offensive trio is extremely strong and has been a hard one to stop, for not just the Flames but all the other teams in the competition.

 

Minecraft Queensland Comets v Kilsyth Cobras @ 10 am

This should be another close contest, even though both teams will be missing their high scorers from the close 5-point competition in Round 2, where the Comets hosted the Cobras.

The two teams have matched up very closely in most statistics from their game, except for the 21 personal fouls that the Comets gave compared to the clean defensive game played by the Cobras who only gave away six fouls. Needless to say, the Comets will have to ensure that they don’t send the Cobras to the free throw line as often this time round.  

 

Be Active Western Stars v Sydney University Flames @ 2 pm

The Stars have proved to be too strong a contender for the Flames each time they’ve met and it would be a mammoth task for the Flames to prove otherwise with the Stars owning the home court advantage.

The Flames will need to work harder in the paint offensively by attacking the ring in close proximity, and defensively by stopping the likes of Kitada and Merritt scoring too many easy shots under the basket.

Sydney Metro Blues v Minecraft Queensland Comets @ 6pm

A 2-0 record for the Blues against the Comets will not deter the efforts of Queensland to try and score a win.

With the shooting averages of 17.5 and 14 points for Cobi Crispin and Bridie Kean respectively, the Comets will have to work toward an overall team effort with big efforts from Shelley Cronau, Georgia Bishop Cash and Mikaela Smith who might need another 27-point game to secure a victory.

Be Active Western Stars v Kilsyth Cobras @ 4pm

Currently the only team to have lost by the smallest margin (of 7 points) to the top ranked Stars, the Cobras have a good line-up of skill and experience to help them overcome the deficit from last time.

Home court advantage for the Stars would mean that players, other than the usual suspects, might perform at their best. Sarah Vinci, who is in good form and coming off a solid NWBL season, will be one to look out for.

 

Sunday 17^th July -

Sydney Uni Flames v Kilsyth Cobras @ 8am

The Flames will fight hard to secure the win in their last game of the round, by trying to outscore the Cobras, who will be missing Shelley Chaplin, one of their lead shooters.

The last time these two teams matched up, the Cobras walked away with a 15-point win, with Del Toso scoring 16. The Flames had a more even contribution with eight of their nine team members putting numbers up on the board. The rebounds were dominated by Stewart and Lindsay who had 24 of their total 42 team rebounds.

Be Active Western Stars v Sydney Metro Blues @ 10am

The final match will be a closely fought contest between the top two ranked teams in the league.

The Blues managed a win against every team expect the Stars in Round 2, and they will be looking to beat them to try an inch closer to the top spot. The Blues fell short of 18 points for the win, even though 4 of their players hit double figures in scoring, showing the depth of their offensive attack.

Comparatively, the Stars had to rely mostly on Kitada and Meritt who collectively scored more points than the entire Blues squad. The Stars have had 10 more average assists per game which is another critical factor that has been constant in their victories so far.
