One Family in Final

DOHA: One Family edged past defending champion Rumaillah Group to enter the final of the 6th McDonald’s Basketball Cup 2010 at the Al Gharafa Multi- Purpose Training Gym on Friday. One Family’ front liners were unstoppable in the closing minutes while registering a 89-83, win and earn a ticket to the championship final.

One Family led by point guard Jhet Bago started to rally and sealed a safe lead , 81-73, with 2:56 minutes left by taking advantage of Rumaillah’s series of turn-over and failure to convert baskets from three successive steals.

Rumaillah started to crumble at the start of the last quarter which analysts said reliable center Rodel Mallari failed to deliver the goods for his team that may have caused his team mates losing focus and momentum to win the game and possibly retain the crown in the championships.

The game was tight in the first half as both teams tried to avoid any breakaway by trading baskets and applying good execution of zone defense. In most of the games, however, One Family looks luckier converting of difficult acrobatic shots led my Anthony Isip.

The presence of their former coach Pete De Veas has also contributed to the One Family players level of b excellent play. It will be the second time that One Family will have the crack for the championship crown in the last two conferences as they will face on Friday an equally strong new team SBQ-Best Restaurant.

SBQ which is on their first try to the championship was the first to enter the finals after beating KBAS-BDO in similar lopsided game.
