The New Caledonian gambled after clearing 3.80m by passing at 3.85 and 3.90 and going straight to 4.0m. He was unable to clear that height and had to settle for bronze.Adrine Monagi leads the womens heptathlon after day one by 104 points from Lucy Turpin of New Caledonia after strong performances in all four events, including a sensational personal best 1.71m in the high jump. This height would have been good enough for silver in the individual womens high jump at the Games.
