MANAGING ACTIVITIES.
This morning (Sat. Nov. 28), a number of different people came to the track for a number of reasons ! The first person was a Football Team Manager who wanted to borrow a stop-watch. I was able to oblige him. Then a number of local Primary age children came and a few used a "Vortex" throwing aid on the grass of the field. Some succeeded in making it "whistle", i.e. they threw it well and on-line.
Kiatau (the boy who unexpectedly won the Intermediate Inter-School High Jump in July) arrived with a friend to get in some training before next year. They did a stretch warm-up (including Crab). Then they started at 1.20m. with a rubber bar off three strides, concentrating on basic rhythm and take-off technique. Kautiatia (the friend) had difficulty but grasped the idea. Kiatau was jumping well from the start. The bar was raised in steps to 1.40m. and the approach extended to 5 strides. They coped well. Then they helped with the timing of the sprinters !
Two seniors and one junior wanted to race over 100m. In the first race, George and Tebania started well (no blocks). George moved smoothly to win in 12.1. Tebania ran 13.4 - to give himself a bench-mark for his training. Then Betero did the same, on his own, clocking 14.5. By now it was raining, so no more high jump.
The two jumpers wanted more work, so went up in the stand with a 5kg. medicine ball to push it to each other up the steps. They completed three sets of 10 each.
While they sweated with the ball, Totirite (a regular trainer recently) ran 5 laps. His target (following a quick session on 1000m. on Tuesday) was 8.00 mins. However, as at training on Thursday, he started too slowly and thus eventually missed his target. He ran 8-17.6.
Off the track, Raobu had arrived and did some drills on his rotational Shot. He was given six "competition" throws later. He had a problem keeping within the sector (to the right). We worked on adjusting his starting position. His best effort today was 12.44m.
Then, as we finished, George and the senior sprinters came back and did their own session.
THANKS ATHLETES.
Thanks to the athletes for their enthusiasm, work on their own events, and willingness to help as officials when needed (bell-ringer, flag-waver, etc.)
