PREPARATION for SINGAPORE !
Thanks to the grass-roots distribution of funds by Oceania AA, we were once more able to send two athletes and an official to the Oceania under-18 staged in Sydney this month (March).
With a view to preparing athletes for the first Youth Olympic Games, to be held in Singapore in August, we held Trials, and selected and sent one female sprinter (Etita Tio) and one male sprinter (Nooa Takooa) to Sydney. Partly due to the use of the "new" starting "zero tolerance" rule used since January 1st. this year, both athletes had relatively slow starts. In addition, for Etita on her first trip overseas this will have been a nervy experience.
Nevertheless they both survived their starts and completed their races.
We are grateful to Oceania AA, and to Ms. Kairo Tune who was the I-Kiribati official who helped the athletes to fulfil their competitive responsibilities.
RESULTS.
W100m. Heat 2 of 3. 10. Etita Tio. 15.35 seconds. (Wind 0.8) 10 ran.
M100m. Heat 1 of 3. 5. Nooa Takooa. 11.85 secs. (0.7) 9 ran.
