IMPOSSIBLE TO FIT.
Last year (2006) when the IAAF organiser of WAD decided to offer two age-groups, we attempted to do both on one day. We found it very difficult to control the numbers.
This year the organiser offered the choice of one age-group or the other. So we decided to split it and have the first meeting tomorrow (May 05) for the "Schools" age-group (born in 1992 and 1993). Events for them will be 80m., 150m., 1000m., Long Jump, and Shot, for Boys and Girls. Of course this age-group only covers the athletes from JUNIOR Secondary Schools.
Then we organised a second meeting on May 12th. for the athletes born in 1990 and 1991. This is the IAAF "Clubs" age-group, but of course goes into the lower end of the SENIOR High Schools, so is really a Schools' event as well ! Their events will be 100m., 400m., 1500m., Long Jump, and Discus, for Boys and Girls.
DELAYED DAY 1.
Due to a predicted clash with another organisation, the start of our activities was delayed until 10.00 am. However, we had the benefit of their sound system and a larger audience ! We had more than 100 athletes register, from five Junior Secondary sections. In the event, even on a dry, warm day, we lost a few. Nevertheless 51 boys and 32 girls actually participated in one or more events.
The winners were:-
80m. GIRLS. Rebeta Mackenzie. (93) 12.1 secs. BOYS. Mote Taranibeia. (92) 9.9 secs.
150m. GIRLS. Mareta Berenato. (92) 22.3 secs. BOYS. Toataake Teekea. (93) 18.9 secs.
1000m. GIRLS. Teina Tewaaki. (93) 4-01.5 BOYS. Tatoka Mwatiera. (92) 3-19.0
LJ GIRLS. Taiauea Rameti. (92) 4.12m. BOYS. Tibwa Kakianako. (92) 5.21m.
Shot. GIRLS. Rita Takaua. (93) 9.70m. BOYS. Moutu Taunganga. (92) 12.02m.
These will have the possibility of being in a lucky draw for a trip to a major IAAF event later in the year.
