CONSISTENCY HELPS !
As part of the postponed Trials 6, today (June 30) we held a Discus competition. Star of the morning was Itinikaeti Tekeraoi who showed the benefit of regular training and performance in being consistently over 40m. in recent training sessions, and now in an official competition. His best was 40.60m. This was with the 1.5k. (Intermediate) Discus.
There are others who are close to achieving this "landmark" standard, a good advance on last year. Itinikaeti joins Harry Highland who threw the 1.0k. implement 40m. as a Junior (u-15). Other high-class throwers include Tunia (Junior) Kaotirake over-30m.in the Hammer, Takakia Tiitake (over-39m. with Intermediate Discus and 12.95m. with Senior Shot), Rabangaki Nawai over 55m. in Javelin, and Bonea Tokataake over 54m. with Intermediate Javelin.
But technique can vary from day to day, as can the prevailing conditions. So regular practice and consolidating technique are essential to build a "plateau" of performance at that level, so that working towards the next level can be attempted !
INTER-SCHOOL NEXT WEEK !
So we are looking forward to next week (Thursday and Friday) when the Inter Secondary School Championships will be staged. But NOT looking forward to trying for a 07.00 a.m. start on Day 1 !!! In Kiribati ? We'll see !
