TECHNICALLY IMPERFECT - BUT !!!
With the latest crop of new talent taking the chance to perform, some of the running and throwing was understandably imperfect, both technically and tactically. However, senior athletes performed well and we have a promising new thrower. Hopefully the less experienced members will learn from their mistakes !
In the Discus, a good senior competition between Itinikaeti and new-boy Raoburen resulted in a victory for the latter with 35.38m. against Itinikaeti 33.95m. Other throwers competed, including an intermediate. The girls are still learning how to stay upright and use their hips first. (I have used the more complimentary photos !) However, their first target of 20m. was successfully passed by two of them, Malita (pictured) losing by 77 cm. to Teera (also pictured) with 20.25m.
WHILE ON THE TRACK...
Kaitinano is being targeted for her second Olympics. She remains the dominant female sprinter and comfortably won the W100 in 13.8. (The track is in a very loose state having had no significant rain for months and no roller.) Sixteen men raced M100 in four races, roughly graded. Tonika and Moote (in different races) were the pick of the competition novices with 12.4. In the "A" race, Tanro clocked 11.2 (close to his fastest) with Rabangaki (training again after Valencia) in second with 11.7.
An M400 "A" race had Tearoba putting in a strong finish to post 55.4 as an early season time. Rabangaki showed his increasing fitness with 56.6. (See photo of start on no-lane track with rough-marked straight !)
The intermediates and juniors raced at M400 and M800 to get times and experience. Totirite, benefiting from regular training, ran a pb 800 3-02 as the fastest of these. He hopes to be in his school's squad for the Inter-School in July.
THANKS - AS EVER !
Thanks for their time and expertise are offered to Tierata, Tekooki, Rianimarewe, and Teweti, plus other volunteers, for their invaluable assistance as officials.
