A NEW OLYMPIC GAMES !
In 2010, there will be the first-ever Youth Olympics, to be held in Singapore from August 14 - 26. Under the auspices of the I.O.C., this new venture promises to be an outstanding Meeting. The overall age-group is reported as being ages 14 - 18. However, it will be up to I.F.s of each sport to decide on the precise 2-year age-bracket for their sport, e.g. maybe 14 - 16 for Gymnastics. It is hoped that clarification of these issues will be made early in 2009. In the meantime there is a contact web-site at www.singapore2010.sg
Other competitions in 2010 include the 7th. multi-sport Micronesian Games in Palau from July 11 - 20; and the Commonwealth Games in (New) Delhi from October 03 - 14 (Athletics Oct. 07 - 13). The Oceania AA Champs have yet to be arranged with date and venue.
A MESSY CONFUSION !
Three clashing competitions occur in 2011. These include the 14th. Pacific Games, in Noumea, New Caledonia from August 27 - Sept. 10; the 13th. IAAF World Championships in Daegu, Korea from Aug. 27 - Sept. 04; and the 4th. Commonwealth Youth Games in Isle of Man, UK, from Sept. 07 - 13. We do not have many high-class athletes, nor many experienced officials, so might have to choose which to attend ! What a mess !
THEN TO LONDON !
2012 will bring the 30th. modern Olympic Games to London, a return after 64 years ! As one who worked for more than 20 years close to the venue, it will be interesting to see how London has faced this challenge ! The dates July 27 - August 12 could be hot (or cold) and could be very wet (as Wimbledon has seen for many years !)
It is to be hoped that London will be seen at its best and stage an excellent series of competitions. Certainly Londoners will make an enthusiastic audience !
