Saints thump Boston in basketball decider

BOSTON and Saints smashed each other last night in the final of the Ram Sami National Basketball Club Championship at Ed's Court in Raiwaqa. Saints won 60-37. In the women's division, the Wednesday Crew beat Golden Bati 23-21. The semi-finals in the men's division were full of excitement with unpredictable turns especially between Boston and Waidonu. Spectators were kept on their toes as the final half came up as Boston shot up in a sudden burst of energy -- shooting hoops and racing back and forth leaving Waidonu spinning in their tracks. "It was a very tough game against the Saints," said Mighty Mights player Henry Tabuduka. Boston hammered out a few last minute scores to beat Waidonu 29-26 in the second semi while in the first semi Saints, led by national men's captain Leonard Whippy, crushed Mighty Mights 55-27 with the Sikivou and Whippy brothers showing superior ball-handling and three-point shots. The Saints had height advantage against the younger players. Last year's Easter champions, Shaq Attaq did not make it to the semis. The Westerners return home today after two days of wonderful competition. "We are looking forward to the Fiji Games and we will be preparing ourselves well for that," said Lautoka Basketball president George Chambers.
