The Suva Secondary Schools basketball competition biggest challenge is to secure venues for their weekly games, says Fiji Basketball Association development officer, Lai Puamau. “The only challenge faced to run the competition is the unavailibity of playing venues,” Puamau said. “Due to an increase in the number of schools teams in this year’s competition securing venues is the biggest concern. “We are thankful to schools and the Raiwaqa Basketball Association who have allowed us to use their facilities to host the games for.” Puamau also acknowledged the Suva and Raiwaqa associations for supporting Basketball Fiji’s development program for providing the much needed man power to run the program,” Puamau added. He said three more weeks of competition remaining before the teams wrap up preparation for the National Championships. “Three weeks of games are left before the home and away competition would come to a close,” Puamau said. “The schools have done extremely well throughout the competition and new schools were proving be very fast learners. “I have been impressed with newcomers Adi Cakobau School who are undefeated after 4 games and have accounted for defending champions Latter Day Saints in the U19 girls division. “In the U19 boys grade defending champions Yat Sen is yet to play last years runners Marist Brothers’ High School, which is promised to be a very entertaining game. “Both teams, undefeated so far, will be playing to claim the number one spot prior to the National Championships. “The U17 boys first timers John Wesley College from Raiwaqa and Yat Sen Secondary School are tied at the top of the points table while in the U17 girls competition Latter Day Saints is on course to successful defend the title.
