Vikings on top

VIKINGS took out the Lautoka/Nadi basketball competition at the Namaka courts on Saturday. The Vikings team which included Thomas Osborne, Peter Chambers, OJ Dunbar and Jale Vunisa defeated Nadi 32-30 in the final. It was sweet revenge for the Vikings team after the side went down to Nadi 20-18 in the round robin competition. The Nadi side included national training squad members Dwayne Dean and Neil Tudreu.

Lautoka Basketball Association executive Simi Cagilaba said the competition attracted four teams. He said Namoli had made a comeback after a lapse of several years. "This was the first time that we organised a tournament like this," Cagilaba said. "The three teams travelled down from Lautoka to Nadi for the competition. This new format will certainly liven up the sport. We hope to organise this format at the end of every month. Teams will travel from Lautoka to Nadi and vice versa."

The other team that participated in the event was Youngsters. Cagilaba said the LBA hoped to start its season soon. He said the tournament in Nadi was well organised. "It was top basketball action," Cagilaba said. "The scores were quite close."
