Basketball improves: Puamau

Eight men and four women teams will compete in the quarterfinals of the Fiji Bitter Easter Basketball Championship today at the Vodafone Arena.

Seini Dobui’s Wed C team, the defending champions, and Leonard Whippy’s Saints have qualified.

Basketball Fiji media officer Laisiasa Puamau said this year’s tournament has improved from last year.

“Competition has really improved. Last year we only had 26 teams but this year it has gone up to 30 which is a good sign,

“We acknowledge all participating clubs for their effort and their co-operation,” Puamau said.

The men’s teams that have booked their places for the quarterfinals today include Saints, Barbarians, Warriors, Idaman, Mighty Mights, Vikings, Boston and one yet to be confirmed.

Puamau said the tournament is one of the biggest competitions in the country.

Quarterfinals start at 9am at the Vodafone Arena today.
