Koyamainavure in Top Form

Miliakere Koyamainavure stood out for her Iowa Central team as she helped them in winning their fourth Region XI Championship last week.

Koyamainavure scored 16 points and eight rebounds in the 71-65 victory.

The former Adi Cakobau School student scored 10 from 13 attempts while the rest of the team went just 4 for 13.

Her performance has won praise from Basketball Fiji who helped developed her in Raiwaqa and Suva. Basketball Fiji development officer Lai Puamau said Koyamainavure has been outstanding both on the basketball arena and academically.

“Basketball Fiji is proud of Miliakere’s outstanding performance on and off the field,” Puamau said.

“Miliakere has a high work ethic and continues to be a great ambassador for Basketball Fiji.”
Puamau said Miliakere’s performance was a testimony to the hard working members of the Raiwaqa Basketball Players Association.

“They continue to provide opportunities and competition to young players in the country and great thanks to the Oceania Foundation in investing in Miliakere,” he added.
Iowa Central (24-8 overall) needed an unforgettable rally to complete its improbable championship run.

The Tritons trailed 33-32 at halftime to the defending Region XI champions.
Undaunted, Iowa Central put together a stunning run that eventually delivered its fourth Region XI championship.
