Basketball Ready

The Fiji Under-19 men's Basketball Team is focused and ready for the 2014 FIBA Oceania Under-19 Basketball Championship next month.

Coach Peni Ratumaiyale added they were in the final stage of preparation. "The boys are doing well and everyone is just focused now on the competition," he said. "We're just spending the next few weeks brushing up on all the moves and maintaining general fitness as the games get closer."

"We also have to consider a number of ouyr players who are having their Year 12 and Year 13 exams. We've made sure to give them the ample space and time they need to focus on their exams, which is first and foremost so we make sure to support them.

"Fitness levels are up to par and we're definitely looking forward to the competition. We're focused and ready and we've got the crowd behind us as the hosts and we don't want to disappoint them.

"It has been a long time since Fiji has hosted such an event so we know the stakes are high and the pressure is on for us to perform for the home crowd. I've told the boys that it's oing to be very tough and there's no time or room to relax.

"There's often that sense of complacency when they make the national team but they know that they have to be on point and can't afford to relax. The countries coming here will be looking to win and they're going to fight for every game.

"We have the home court advantage and I've told the boys we need to make the most of that opportunity." The championship will be held in Suva on December 1-6.
