PNG Beat Fiji In Tough Clash

The Fijian men’s basketball team lost their first game to Papua New Guinea 75-73 at the Taurama BSP Arena on Sunday. It was an aggressive first quarter of the game seeing the host’s side having home crowd advantage to lead at 24-21 end of first quarter.

The Fijian side came back fighting in the second quarter with a firm leadership from captain Marques Whippy managed to counter PNG in few rebounds and enjoy possession to award them a 42-41 lead at halftime.

Pressure mounted on team Fiji in the third quarter as the tough PNG side played structured defence and attacking game which led the Fijians to commit more fouls and PNG leading 63-55 at the end of third quarter.

Both teams lifted momentum in the final quarter with more fouls coming from the Fijians.
