WELLINGTON TEAM TO PLAY FIJI WOMEN

Our USA based players of Valerie Nainima, Mikaelar Whippy, Aggie Tuilevuka and Helen Roden, along with our New Zealand based players of Bulou Tuisie and Letava Whippy will return to Suva this weekend to join up with the local players to play against an Invitational Team from Wellington, New Zeland during next week.

Head coach Michael Whippy is looking forward to having all his squad together for the first time this year to allow them to practice together and play against the NZ team.  He will select teams from the 20 strong squad to play in three games next Tuesday and Thursday at Tattersalls Gym on on Saturday evening at Vodafone Arena.

Coach Whippy will use these games to select the team to travel to the pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Madrid, Spain in June to try to qualify for the Beijing Olmpics.

The Wellingtom Team will boast several high profile players from the NZ WNBL and also two import players from Europe.  This combined invitational team will provide the Fiji women with quality opposition and allow coach Whippy to compare the players who are still fighting for a position in the team for Spain.

The overseas players based in the USA have just completed their division 1 college season and all have performed exceptionally well during this year.  The NZ based players are still in their competitions and are also doing very well and all being match fit, the overseas based players will add much quality to the local players.
