Basketball starts primary schools competition

THE inaugural Fiji Primary Schools Basketball competition was launched at the Vodafone Arena on Friday.

International Basketball Federation Oceania development officer Mark Seccombe, who is based in Fiji said the time was right to start a competition for young kids.

Seccombe was instrumental in the formation of the primary school basketball and is heavily involved in the development of the game.

He said his work involved developing the game among our young kids.

"Our mission is to take the game to as many kids as possible."

Seccombe said they were happy to see that five schools had confirmed participation in this competition and others were willing to join later.

The five schools that have entered teams in the competition include Veiuto Primary, Lallter Day Saints, John Wesley, International and Holy Trinity.

The competition's sponsor is Post Fiji, with Seccombe saying the company had given a significant amount of money to help run the competition.

Others companies like Tuckers, Cola-Cola Amatil and Hot Bread Kitchen have given their support to the competition.

Competition will be held every Friday.
