Raiwai basketball development program proves a hit

THE Raiwai Basketball Association successfully rounded-off the first round of its development program at the Raiwai Youth Centre hall yesterday.

The program initially designed to help budding Raiwai talent has attracted teams from around Suva.

Now the RBA expects more teams to join the competition to bolster the second round, starting on May 16.

"It was a real success for us this season as we managed to get in many teams in the competition," RBA official Kelevi Serukalou said.

"We improved a lot as far as development of basketball is concerned and managed to strengthen the relationship with the parents in getting them to watch their kids in action."

Serukalou said they expected secondary students to join the program next season.

"We would love to have had secondary students taking part in the program and have a weekly competition for them. The door is open for everyone who wishes to be part of this program," he said.

"I would like to thank all the parents for their support and everyone involved in this, especially the Raiwai Youth Hall committee for giving us the venue to hold weekly clinics."

After the first round of competition, the Kapacricks head the Under-10 mixed category while Bryce rules the U12 mixed division.

Host Raiwai lead the U14 competition while star-studded Shaq Attack leads the three-on-three competition.

Results: U10: Kapacricks 13-8 Raiwai Rats; U12: Raiwai Rats 25-19 Barbarians; U14: RYDP 27-25 Barbarians.
