Sikivou plays key role for Freshman

NATIONAL U20 rep Jese Sikivou played an instrumental role in Freshman's 37-33 victory over Might Mights in the final of the National U22 Men's Basketball Championship at Ed's courts yesterday.

Freshamn edged Knicks 36-34 in the semifinals while Mighty Mights beat Saint Old Boys 30-15 to book their final spot.

Sikivou's experience and vision was the guidance for Freshmans in a tough semifinal encounter against Knicks. Freshmans and Shaq-Attack looks to be the teams to beat from pool play but Shaq failed to last heading into the knockout stages.

In the women's division, Golden Bati edged X-Wounds 44-40 in the finals. Golden Bati upset RYDP 40-7 while X-Wounds beat favourites Westcoast 26-18 in the semifinals.

Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau was impressed with the level of competition. "I'm so thrilled with the level of games and skills displayed at this age group. We've revived this championship this year and we're so happy that potential players are again identified."

The last time a similar championship was organized was in 1998. He said

Puamau also thanked the Raiwaqa Basketball Associations for organising the tournament.

He was impressed with the number of turnouts that boosted the morale of players on the final day. Puamau
