Teams gear up for the SKY Technologies 2009 Raiwaqa Tournament

The SKY Technologies 2009 Raiwaqa Tournament which has been organised by the Raiwaqa Basketball Players Association will feature 10 men's and 6 women's team's around the Suva area. The event will begin on the 5th and the finals will be held on the 14th November, 2009. The tournament which is sponsored by SKY Technologies will be played at the association’s famous basketball court - Ed's court and is promised to be a very competitive event. In the men's grade 10 teams will be divided into 2 pools of 5 with the best two teams after the round robin pool games will qualify for the semi-finals. It would be impossible to predict who will progress to the knockout stages as each pool is equally strong. Pool 1 will feature Mighty Might’s a young and upcoming team who finished runners up in the recent National U22 Tournament. The young brigade will be facing stiff competition from seasonal clubs Raiwaqa Veterans, G-Unit, Knights and Waidonu with all teams field with National and ex Reps. In pool 2 last seasons runners up of the Raiwaqa Tournament Idaman will face the hustling and rough Boston outfit, Bryceland, Raiwai and the Cinavilakeba Trophy holders Barbarians. The winner of the SKY Technologies Raiwaqa Knockout Tournament will have the first shot at trying to wrestle the Cinavilakeba Trophy from holders Barbarians during in the feature match in the Raiwaqa League straight after the tournament. In the women's grade 6 teams have been divided into two equally strong pools. The National U22 Women's Champion Golden Bati has registered for the exciting event and will be going in as slight favourites. The team X- Wounds who will be seeking revenge after their narrow lost to tournament favourites Golden Bati in the recent National U22 Women's Final. Also featuring in the women's open division is newly formed clubs Wed C which are packed with current National Reps and young upcoming team’s cougars and Raiwai.
