Teams gear up for National Christmas Club Championships

The Post Shop Easter National and Suva champs Shaq Attaq who have the service of National reps David Whippy and Laisiasa Puamau will be gunning to repeat their early success in the upcoming National Christmas Club Championships which will be held on December 12th at the Lautoka multi-purpose courts. However this will not be an easy task as the defending Easter Champs have been out of competition due to the Suva Laucala Basketball Association taking an early break early in the season. It will be interesting to see if the Shaq Attaq outfit has what it takes to win the grueling one day competition. Also participating in the event is Lautoka champs and Easter runners up Vikings who will be thirsty for revenge after losing their 2008 Easter crown early in the year to Shaq. The Vikings will be led by Simione Cagilaba and boosted by National Men's rep Jale Vunisa and National U20 rep Peter Chambers. Also registered in the competition is the Jese Sikivou led National U22 champ Freshman and the recent SKY Technologies 2009 Raiwaqa men's champion Byrceland who narrowly defeated tournament favourites Idaman to win the tournament. Young and upcoming team Mighty Mights who is coached by Saula Koroi have proving in recent tournaments that they can not be taken lightly as the continue to create shock waves after recording recent wins over ex- Raiwaqa champions Warriors and Boston. In the women's division newly formed team Golden Bati continues to turn heads in the Raiwaqa Basketball League. The Golden Bati which are lead by sisters Elizabeth and Talica Sautu and assisted by National U22 tournament MVP Mili Koyamainavure have been the inform women's team for 2009 and will be looking to add another title to their cabinet after taking out the National U22 women's title in October and the SKY Technologies Raiwaqa Knockout Tournament two weekends ago. They will face stiff competition from the Vikings women club of Lautoka and their traditional competitors the X- Wounds who have the service of National U20 reps Grace Taito, Vika Fifita and Leah Seru.  Also in the thick of things is the team Wed C who are filled with National Senior reps Seini Dobui and Mareta to name a few. The National Christmas Club Championships has attracted the best teams from various associations onto one court and is promised to create a huge BANG!! on December the 12th. Only 16 men's and 8 women's teams will be competing in the fierce competition which will mark the end of the 2009 basketball season.
