ACS rules school basketball

NEWCOMERS Adi Cakobau School continues its winning run in schools basketball after they defeated LDS 18-6 in the feature match of last week's competition. The Milly Komainavure-led ACS side surprised last year's champion in the girls competition LDS with their all round performance. Fiji Basketball development officer Lai Puamau said the ACS team had really improved their performance since joining the competition this year. "LDS has a lot of players who were members of the women's under-20 squad and for ACS to beat them by that big margin speaks volume of the hard work done by girls from Sawani," Puamau said. "They (ACS) have been playing well this year and it should not be a surprise if they take out the Under-19 girl's competition." In the boys U19 competition, Yat Sen continued its good run by beating Suva Grammar 38-3. The boys from Flagstaff were led by national men's under-20 squad member Josh Motufaga. Puamau said competition was expected to heat up this week with the inclusion of International School and Marist Brothers. Puamau said the competition is a build-up to next month's national schools basketball tournament.
