Leba moves up

Young Leba Korovou has achieved a milestone in basketball after being selected to represent the Fiji Under-20 basketball team for the 2010 FIBA Oceania Youth tournament to be held in Noumea next month. The 14-year-old is trying to come to terms with her selection and gave credit to the Almighty God and to her ever supportive parents for fulfilling one of her ultimate dreams. "I'm honoured to be selected to represent the country in basketball," Leba said. "I'm just 14-years-old and to achieve this milestone is something that I'm still trying to get over. "I thank the Almighty God for his protection and I thank my parents who have been supporting me throughout. "I also thank the principal of Natabua High School Sashi Kumar, who allowed me to go down to Suva every Friday to attend basketball training. "I thank the Fiji basketball coaches for having faith in me." Leba said she would do all it took to prove her selection and to help the Fiji team do well at the Noumea meet. The former national netball training squad member is eagerly waiting for her biggest international break after failing to make it big in netball last year. Leba was named in the national netball 15-member training squad but missed out the final 12-member final naming that went to the Mini Pacific Games in the Cook Islands. However, the lanky shooter never gave up until reaping the fruits of her hard work to get the Fiji call in basketball. The Noumea basketball meet will be held from October 30-November 8.
