POLICE RAISE $1,000 FOR UNDER 20 TEAM

The Fiji Police Force held a fundraising morning team at the Police Headquarters in Centre Point this morning to contribute to the Fiji Under 20 Basketball contingents that will be living the country on Saturday for the Oceania Competition in New Caledonia.
Police collected $1605 and this will go towards the contingent’s medical fund. The National U20 Women and Men’s basketball teams will be competing in New Caledonia on November 1-7.

The morning team was attended by members of the Fiji Prison and Correctional Services, Fiji Military Forces and Police Headquarters Staff.

The Fiji Police Marching Band led the basketball contingent in a short march escorting them up the police headquarters driveway.

Speaking to the basketball contingent this morning the Deputy Commissioner of Police Isikeli Ligairi gave the police well wishes to the team.

“We at the Fiji Police Force wish you all the best,” DCP Ligairi said.

“Please remember that it’s not all about basketball, we in the police force want young people to become good leaders of our beloved nation tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Orisi Naivalurua, who is the only surviving member of the 2009 Oceania Men's team to be included in the Oceania age category meet, will lead the men’s team.
