Basketball for the Nadaro lad

Being the youngest kid on the block does not stop Suliasi Vakarusabola from achieving his dream of playing basketball for the national team in future.

The seven-year old lad from Nadaro in Tailevu was among the kids at the Raiwai Youth Basketball development competition at the Raiwai Youth Hall yesterday.

Vakarusabola said he wanted to pursue a career in basketball and his aim is to fully develop his skills at a young age.

He played for the U10 Raiwai team during the competition yesterday.

Vakarusabola said he wanted to represent the country in basketball and he would give his best to achieve his dream one day.

“I love basketball very much. I saw my brother Inoke playing it so I decided to come along with him and try out the sport. It’s great and fun and I love it very much,” he said.

“My aim now is to work hard and try and learn every advice from the coaches and try to improve on my game every week.”

Suliasi plays as a guard in mid court.

Raiwai development officer Kelevi Serukalou said Suli would be the first one every afternoon.

“He had that passion and desire to play basketball just like some other kids who loves rugby.”

Suliasi said his parents support was always there for him and he thanked them for releasing him every afternoon to practice his skills and develop his knowledge after school.

He was among the more than 30 children that were present yesterday.
