Future teachers particpate in Level 0 Coaching Course

Basketball Fiji has partnered with the Fiji College of Advance Education to run a Level Zero Coaching Course for the sixteen, 3rd Year University students training to become PE teachers. The course is being run by Fiba Oceania Development Officer Mark Seccombe with the help of Fiji Senior Men’s player Laisiasa Paumau who currently is replacing National Development Officer Fanny Simpson who is on leave.

As part of Basketball Fiji’s Strategic Development plan we acknowledge the importance of all teachers having a very basic knowledge of basketball so they can teach the students, at school, during their physical education classes.

The Fiji College of Advance Education have expressed their interest in holding a Level Zero Coaching Courses annually and we thank these students who are participating in the program outside of their classroom hours.

Last Thursday the theory component of the coaching course was held in the main hall. The following week the students embarked on the practical element of the course whereby we taught and demonstrated the fundamental techniques of the game. These include dribbling, passing, shooting and rebounding along with many more basketball related principles.

Thank you once again to Mr Vulaca and the Fiji College of Advance Education in particular the students involved for there enthusiasm of being involved in our coaching course. The students will all received a FIBA Oceania recognised Level Zero Coaching certificate.

Vinaka vakalevu!
