Puamau plans to lift standard

Newly appointed basketball development officer Laisiasa Puamau plans to further lift the standard of the sport in the country.

Puamau said with the recent development of the sport in the country he hopes to organise championships for all levels - right from the juniors to the senior grade which could also attract overseas teams to join the competition.

"As the sport grows in our country we hope Basketball Fiji sets up a national championship for all levels not only at the senior level (Easter Championships) but also at the junior level (a junior national championship). Once this has been set up we hope to have teams or schools from abroad join these championships," he said. "Through the establishment of these championships we can qualify for the Under-16 and U-19 world championship that is hosted by FIBA."

He added the exposure of players and referees in the country helps in the improvement of the sport to another level.
