Basketball Fiji Workshop Hits Vanua Levu

Basketball Fiji continued its partnership with the Fiji Paralympics Committee last week holding the third and final Basketball Workshop for Special Schools in Fiji. This time it was to the Northern Division of Labasa, Vanua Levu. Mark Seccombe (AYAD and FIBA Oceania representative) has conducted two previous workshops for the Special Schools in Suva and more recently in Lautoka for the Special Needs Schools in the Western division.

We thank the sports teachers from the two schools in the northern region: Labasa Special School and Savusavu Special School for their participation and enthusiasm for basketball.

The 1 ½ day basketball workshop included a theory session of the rules, skills and techniques associated with the game. The following day a practical session was held at Labasa LDS Church with 18 students from Labasa Special School participating in the fun filled activities.

The kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves for the 2 ½ hour clinic, many learning the skills of the game for the first time.

The students are now excited about playing basketball in the Matua Sports Festival from the 27th-30th of October, a National Special Schools Competition where Basketball will be introduced for the first time.
