Big turnout at basketball clinic

THE Lautoka Basketball Association received an overwhelming response for the two day referee's clinic conducted by International Basketball Federation accredited referee Navi Naivalu.

Seventeen basketball enthusiasts participated in the clinic.

LBA president Simi Cagilaba said this was a big number to undergo a refereeing clinic.

He said interest in the sport was on the rise in the Sugar City.

"We are grateful to Navi for conducting the referee's clinic," Cagilaba said.

"After a long time we have seen such a big number attend such a clinic. It is good for the sport."

Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Paumau was also present.

The LBA held a confederacy competition at the multi purpose courts yesterday.

This was staged as a dress rehearsal to the National Club Championship which will be held at the same venue.

Cagilaba said all aspects of staging the major event were finalised.

He said they hoped to accommodate eight women's and 16 men's teams.

Results:

Burebasaga One 31-39 Burebasaga Two,

Burebasaga One 39-50 Kubuna,

Burebasasa Two 48-40 Tovata,
